Wednesday, 17 March 2010 02:03 Written by Urbanatomy The new terminal at Hongqiao Airport opened Tuesday. And all you have to do is find it: Thousands of passengers went to the wrong gates yesterday, Shanghai Daily reported. The new terminal building is 15 minutes away via shuttle bus from the old one. About eight percent of passengers missed their flights (usually only one percent do). Ah, as if flying weren't awful enough. Last year the airport handled 25 million passengers. The 15.3 billion RMB ($2.2 Billion USD) expansion will raise the airport's capacity to 40 million. And with direction connections to railway and subway systems, daily capacity will be 1.1 million, government officials said (according to Business Week). Add comment (0)

Monday, 15 March 2010 01:03 Written by Urbanatomy Turns out, Jane can come too! Shanghai Dolls, a club for expat ladies, published their first newsletter this week. And it's way more interesting than the drivel we post here: One of the Dolls found a local masseur - "Alex" - who gives a two-hour massage followed by a, um, hand job (where are the cute euphemisms for that one?). Writer Julia Taylor, didn't give it a go. And judging from the comments section, they're having trouble finding a Doll to cowgirl up for a first-person review. Full text plus Alex's phone number here.

Monday, 15 March 2010 02:03 Written by Urbanatomy All over international media this weekend - 13 rare Siberian tigers starved to death within three months in Shenyang Forest Wild Animal Zoo in northeastern Liaoning Province. Underfunding seems to be the root of the problem. On March 9 zoo workers went on strike for back pay: "We haven't been paid in 18 months. We love animals, but we have to make a living," a breeder named Zhao told China Daily. Shenyang city government has allocated 5 million yuan to saving the remaining animals. Certainly not the kind of press anyone likes before the Expo. |
